There’s something we need to talk about.
It’s the unspoken, unconscious bias that favours the practical, tangible and rational sides of life, while side-lining, minimising and unfairly dismissing the unseen aspects of life.
And with that, those who believe in the unseen.
In my 12+ years leading, teaching and healing in the spiritual coaching industry, I’ve come to define this bias as a form of Spiritual discrimination.
Spiritual discrimination marginalises heart-centred people who see things differently, are connected to a higher purpose, and believe in the unseen world.
If this is you, you'll probably recognise the feeling of not quite fitting in, feigning interest in surface-level conversations, and keeping your true thoughts, ideas and beliefs tucked away from those around you in case you’re laughed at or not taken seriously.
In particular, I’ve been written off by my family-in-law as an entire human being simply because of my spiritual beliefs. Perhaps you can relate?
The effects of this unintended but very real discrimination are extremely painful, potentially debilitating, and cannot be discounted.
The good news is, the tides are turning.
Alternative approaches such as yoga, natural medicine and teachings based in inclusion and unseen energies are now more accessible than ever before.
Yet, the effects of this discrimination still linger. They are carried forward in the silent inner battle to translate what you do know has value, into words and tangible form…
The way you struggle to price your work, speak to its value, and bring folk into your offerings can feel maddening. Especially when you know, deep down in your heart, that what you have to offer is truly incredible and could be changing many lives.
While you are ultimately a powerful creator being with the ability to transform beyond this, it's important to acknowledge this a very real part of current culture and you are certainly not alone in any battle you may be fighting
When society hasn't valued your work, it can be harder to value it yourself.
When your ideas haven't been heard, it can be harder to voice them yourself.
When your light has not been recognised, it can be harder to see it yourself.
One of the ways you influence culture and turn the tides of change is by going within and doing the inner work, first
By going inward, you dismantle the internalised oppression that keeps you doubting your value and the meaning of your work—not just in your heart and knowing, but in your ability to speak it out loud and show up for your calling with unwavering certainty.
This is how we co-create change on a world scale—from the inside-out, one person at a time.
This dismantling is one of the first things we do in my work with clients. In order to show up fully in your full light and brilliance, we must first peel back the layers that have made it unsafe for you to speak out to begin with.
Take my client Nicole, for example.
Nicole came to me unsure and uncertain about whether she could make a go of her passion, and felt unseen and misunderstood by her family of origin.
After just 6 sessions together, she left saying:
“I've got so much clarity and refinement around my gifts and how I feel called to serve. A lot of the fog has cleared. I feel like my voice has cleared so much. I had so much further to go than I had initially thought around speaking my truth and embodying my wisdom. I feel more able to be myself and talk about my business with my family, without caring whether they get it or not. I feel so much more seen and I just know it's all going to come together at the right time."
Change is absolutely possible.
And the more comfortable you become being seen in your light, the more comfortable others will be around you. The more you can speak into it without shame and discomfort, and the more the doors are opened for others to come to you with curiosity.
This is when your words land, your message lands, your presence induces possibility, and your offers become the invitation to a new kind of world—one where more people feel seen, heard, valued and appreciated for who they are and what they have to bring.
Even — and especially — when that’s a bit woo-woo out the gate. Because the world needs new and the world needs different.
It's my passion and life's work to guide spiritual leaders, healers, teachers and creators out of the closet” where you can be seen for who you truly are—to and remember that you belong, are wanted, and that the wisdom in your heart that is yours to share, has been put there for a reason.
If you’re ready to take a step forward on your path of purpose and become the leader you were born to be, I’d love to connect.
